There are good rivers and excellent rivers, and there
are one or two that can be singled out as world
class. The Welsh Dee is such a river. This distinction
was earned in 1990, when anglers flocked to its banks
to fish the world championships. The Dee proved just
how good it really was as a trout and grayling river.
Springing to life in the Snowdonia National Park,
the tiny Dee races over mossy stones and boulders.
In that high country, the trout are small and as pretty
as a picture
Before
entering Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid), the Dee is joined
by the river Lliw and Twrch, noteworthy
trout
streams in their own right. The Dee flows north east
over crystal gravelly runs much loved by trout and
grayling.
The Dee has a good head of wild brown
trout averaging 6oz - 8oz, which are joined by others
stocked by clubs and associations. Considerable stretches
of the Dee are home to tremendous stocks of grayling
and fish of 2lb and more are not uncommon! |
